Pastor Rodney Pearce surrendered his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in 1998 and from that moment until now he has had a passionate desire to not only grow in his own faith, but to tell others how to grow in theirs. In the year 2000 he felt the Lord’s calling to be a pastor and from there he pursued an education to better prepare himself for ministry. He began with completing a two year course from Liberty University and then received his Bachelors and Masters degrees, both in biblical studies, from Louisiana Baptist University. He accepted the call to be full time pastor at Temple in 2005 and has been serving in that role ever since. He loves leading and has an insatiable desire to build a church that can make a difference in the lives of people. He has a wife named Carla and four children who’s names are Rachel, Langley, Leyton, and Lawson. He loves the outdoors, reading, and spending a lot of time with his family.
Rodney Pearce - Senior Pastor/Selma Lead Pastor
Scooter Murphy - Wilson Lead Pastor
Scooter felt God calling him towards ministry while in college, and in turn attended Heritage Bible College for Pastoral Studies. He is a North Carolina native and loves the local church. With a background in camping ministry, children’s ministry, student ministry, and college ministry Scooter now leads Temple’s Wilson County campus. His life verse is Matthew 5:6. He is a die-hard supporter of the NC State Wolfpack and loves spending time with his family. He and his wife Laura have 5 children.
John Eklund - "Recovery ALIVE!" Pastor
Ordained as a minister, John started, and currently leads the "Recovery ALIVE!" program at Temple, a Christ-centered program that helps people find hope and healing from their hurts, hang-ups, and habits. John also directs and leads Temple’s media team. John is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned his Bachelor's degree from Evangel University in Springfield, MO, and graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Delaware State University. John started his career in 1999 as a Family Crisis Therapist for the state of Delaware working with at-risk children, teens, and families until he was called into full-time ministry. John lives in Smithfield with his wife and four daughters.
Thomas Parker - Worship and Finance Pastor
Pastor Thomas started in the music ministry in 1990 and came to Temple in 2011. At Temple, Pastor Thomas initiated what is now known as The Temple Choir and carries the responsibility of Temple’s worship ministry which encompasses the entire Sunday morning worship experience. Pastor Thomas also is responsible for the day to day operations of Temple which includes the Temple Learning Center and all of the financial affairs of the church and learning center. Prior to answering the call to ministry, Pastor Thomas studied music education at Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN and Accounting/Business at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC. In Pastor Thomas’ free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Karen, their family which includes Ricky and his wife Jessica and grandchild, Baylen, Kyler and his wife, Caroline, Klaiborne and her husband, Tyler, and Kreston, as well as bicycling and cheering on the North Carolina Tar Heels and any Temple softball team.
Glen Raven - Family Life Pastor
Pastor Glen & his beautiful wife, Wilma, came to Temple in 2014 after relocating from Wisconsin. Pastor Glen originally was ordained as a Deacon in 1981 at his home church in Dallas, Texas, and again here at Temple 2016. Pastor Glen has previously served as Deacon, Elder, & Trustee here at Temple.
Corey Myers - Temple Youth Pastor
Pastor Corey was born and raised in NC and gave his heart to Jesus at the tender age of 10. He began to feel that God was calling him into ministry, as a teenager. Pastor Corey started his ministry journey at the young age of 16. He began his journey in music ministry and creative arts, while also serving with youth and children as a servant leader. He has been apart of various Music groups/bands, as well, leading worship. Since 2014, Pastor Corey has been a full-time Worship and Creative Arts Pastor overseeing all worship experiences, from Sunday mornings to youth events and conferences. In 2020 God began to re-shift Pastor Coreys focus back to youth and began birthing a new season. He began seeking God's face and realizing that while music will always be apart of his life and ministry, God was doing a new thing and youth have always had Pastor Coreys Heart. Corey now leads the Temple Youth.
Nancy House - Connect Director/Pastor Assistant
Nancy has been employed at Temple since 2007. She started out as a part-time administrative assistant and Mothers Morning Out assistant director. From there she moved to full-time administrative assistant and director of all children ministries. As her value continued to grow her roles have continued to change. She currently serves as connect director and the personal assistant to the Lead Pastor. Nancy is married with two sons and three grandsons. When not working she enjoys time with her family and friends. Her hobbies are fishing, going to the beach, and working in her yard. She is a valuable member of the Temple team.
Jamie Henderson - Children's Director
Jamie has been working with Temple since 2013. Her passion is connecting families to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ and loves teaching the Bible. She believes that it takes a community to raise children who know they have a purpose. She loves to partner with agencies such as the Partnership for Children and other local churches to maximize their resources and influence. She has two children and a grandson. You can usually find her amazing husband, Eric, serving with her in Temple Kids on Sunday mornings. She spends most of her free time researching fun, simple, and creative ways to share the gospel with children and their families.
Yvonne Chelberg - Temple Dream Center Director
Once upon a time the Lord planted a God-sized dream in Yvonne. And now, through Temple Dream Center, He is bringing it to fruition. Her job experience ranges from hand cutting fir tree boughs for Christmas wreaths and garland in a repurposed chicken coop (yes in the cold MN winter!) to starting a non-profit food pantry and back pack program to, today, serving at Temple as Dream Center Director. She has lived in four states, MN, NJ, WV and now the lovely NC. She is grateful to y’all for the southern hospitality. The move to NC was the first move she wasn’t running from something but to something - something God had for her. She and her two dogs, Dakota and Lucy, love living on a farm in JOCO.
Jessie Bridges - Learning Center Director
Jessie has had many years of gym teaching experience for young children. She started at Temple as a summer camp leader and then became the Lead Teacher for our infant room. She has a passion for young children and has now become the Learning Center Director. Jessie also serves in our Recovery Alive program.
Stephanie Willard - Children's Director Assistant
My name is Stephanie Willard, my family and I have been members of Temple since 2006. I have been serving in youth and children's ministry since 2007 and currently work part-time with Temple Kids as the Assistant Children's Director. I spend my free time with my husband Chris Willard and our 2 boys, Tyler and Eli. I also enjoy living out one of God‘s purposes for me which is working with kids!
Chris Willard - Usher and Parking Director
Chris leads our incredible team of ushers each Sunday to provide you with the smoothest entrance & departure from our Selma campus. If you’re looking for a good seat in the sanctuary, he’ll show you the way.
Mark Valasek - Facilities Director
Mark works each week to keep our buildings up and running and squeaky clean! He sets out all the chairs for Sunday morning, cleans the bathrooms, etc.
Dorothy Upton - Administrative Assistant
Dorothy had over 45 years of customer service before becoming a staff member at Temple. Her increasing responsibility has helped her make people feel like they are her top priority each day. She heads up The Back Pack Buddies Program for West Smithfield Elementary School. She is also a Sunday Greeter
